Inverter Welding Technology

The purpose of this Bulletin_88 is to provide links to Online Sources.

Inverter Welding Technology is universally implemented in all modern welding power sources.

Also in many other applications only marginally involved with welding or cutting (like Positioners) or not involved at all.

The development of this technology was allowed by the progress in design and production of electronic devices, nowadays reliable and sturdy enough for continuous industrial applications.

The most visible advantages of inverter installations refer to substantial reduction in weight and size of transformers for given power level and duty cycle. Equally important is the economy of use due to improved electrical efficiency.

Performance is claimed to be more adaptable to workpiece material and requirements, because suitable waveforms can be selected, and pulses polarity, frequency, duration and level are under complete control and exactly repeatable, while input voltage fluctuations are compensated for by built-in devices.

An article summarizing progress and achievements in Inverter Welding Technology was published (7) in issue 120 of Practical Welding Letter for August 2013.
